Win-Win.Build presents an alternative to construction’s current management philosophy and practices. This alternative is based on thirty years of the study, research, and application of W. Edwards Deming’s work by Mark Sands.
Worldwide, Deming is considered the father of quality and process improvement. The Toyota Production System and lean manufacturing developed out of Deming’s work. This page – W. Edwards Deming Bio – provides an overview of his background and work. This short essay – Be Transformed by the Renewing of Your Mind – describes how Deming’s thinking, and his system of knowledge and management principles, solve construction’s biggest problems.
As detailed in his book “Out of the Crisis” – the first problem to be solved is lack of knowledge. That’s true for any broken system – Healthcare, Government, Education, Family, and so on. For any of these, just fill in the blank here, “Out of the _____________ Crisis”. Construction is perhaps the most complex of all systems – and seriously broken. But, not beyond repair if its leaders become motivated to change.
AGILIS was formed in 1999 by Mark Sands to manage and produce a prototype building and forerunner to today’s industrialized, or manufacturing-inspired, construction approach. AGILIS has since developed several computer applications based on Deming systems theory – the most recent being Building CATALYST.
Mark Sands is an engineer-turned data scientist who has spent decades studying, researching, and applying Deming’s system of knowledge to construction. Mark first presented Deming to other owners of The Christman Company in 1994. In 2003, he left the day-to-day construction world in search for objective knowledge about construction. Here is the story of Mark’s Journey that led to Building CATALYST and this Deming-based Win-Win Solution for construction.
Building CATALYST is a cloud-based SAAS (software as a service), and only system that offers a solution to help construction break free from its fragmented and manual state. CATALYST integrates and automates the facility planning and cost management processes. Construction’s transformation must start in the planning process. As you will see, it’s the only way that the programming, design, procurement, construction, and facility operations can be built on a solid foundation.
CATALYST provides the essential data processing platform to make the Deming management philosophy and system of knowledge work in construction. With CATALYST, process improvement can not be measured and, therefore, actually improved. Learn more by visiting: www.buildingcatalyst.com. CATALYST is owned and managed by AGILIS and software engineers Bruce Carlson, and Scott Jasperse.
